The report details the Church of Scotland Trust’s work to hold properties outwith Scotland and to act as a trustee in a number of third party trusts.

Generally good, but the situation in Pakistan is still ongoing.

8.2 Empty properties
“Strenuous efforts are made to try and relet such properties but, for a variety of reasons, this is often not practicable. Commercial rental of such properties is only undertaken rarely, where the prospect of a sale, is for market reasons, highly unlikely.” Is this a space where new forms of church can happen?

In section 8.3 the trustees detail the challenge of empty properties, have the trustees of the fund considered if these some of these properties would be appropriate for hosting new forms of church? could you tell us of your thoughts around this?

The report details the Pension Trustees’s work on the Church’s three defined benefit pension schemes, which are now closed to future accrual and new members

Whats the key point of the report?
The administration of the schemes are the best they can be unless the church of scotland invest in a buy out of all the schemes.

5.1 The pension scheme buy out option doesn mention a cost of a buy out. a figure of circa£5m is put on the savings of buying out the schemes together.

Questions or amendments or suggested new deliverances.
Can the convener tell us in the course of the discussions has there been a potential cost of the buyout option floated. I see that £5million saving has been detailed, but until we see how much the buy out will cost, we cannot geta sense of this figure are a potential saving, nor do we have a sense of how much “significant additional funds” is?
